The Chatelaine's office is in charge of Newcomers' Relations. If it is your first event, look to the Chatelaine to welcome you. If you need help finding your local branch, event information, or any SCA information, the Chatelaine is here to help you. See the Chatelaine Contacts page to find the chatelaine or contact person for a group near you.
From the Chatelaine:
Welcome to the Current Middle Ages!
The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is a non-profit educational organization that recreates the era between the fall of Rome until the death of Elizabeth I within reason and with modern conveniences.
We also strive to recreate this era in the form of medieval martial arts, painting, cooking, clothing, as well as daily life.
We have many Events that vary from one day up to two weeks. An Event can be anything from Collegiums (where the fruits of our research are shared with members of the society, with subjects for both children and adults), to our Crown/Coronet Tournaments that decide who will be the next reigning Royalty through trial by heavy combat.
Our combat is defined in two ways; heavy combat (full armor generally made from leather or metal that mimic period armor), and rapier (renaissance fencing with lighter armor). To participate in Crown/Coronet lists, the fighter and consort must be a member of the SCA and have a valid fighter authorization card. Both men and women are eligible to fight. Anyone may fight in any other tournament other than Crown/Coronet as long as the participant has a valid fighter authorization card. We also have children’s fighting activities that use specially developed armor and weapons that are safe for the children to use under strict parental supervision.
