Greetings from the Seneschal

Hello, and welcome to the West Kingdom Seneschal's home page!  My name, in the SCA, is Rose de LeMans, and I am the West Kingdom Seneschal.

"What," you may be asking, "is a seneschal, anyway?  What does a seneschal do?"

Good questions!

In the Middle Ages, a seneschal was a high-ranking member of the staff of a nobleman's household, and his duties could range from supervising feasts and domestic ceremonies to dispensing justice -- but primarily the job involved administering the household.  The job of the SCA seneschal is not much different.  Seneschals are responsible for the administrative tasks of the kingdom.  We keep the records and write the reports that show the kingdom is healthy and flourishing, we update the laws and ensure that the kingdom is functioning.  We make sure events and meetings are held, and act as liaisons between the real world and the SCA.

Naturally, I can't do this alone!  There is a seneschal for every branch in the kingdom, and a whole host of officers who have specific areas of responsibility.  We all work together, like the staff of a large household, to ensure that the kingdom keeps running and the populace has a safe place to play.

So, once again, welcome!  Please feel free to look around, and if you have any questions, please feel free to email me

I look forward to meeting you,
Rose
